...well what do you think? I am smitten by how this one turned out! :) It certainly has that vintage-french chic feel to it, don't you think?
It would be up on the Etsy shop, soon as I get some felt for the back attachment for the clip. It's now a little bit hanging 'cos paper don't really work well for clips. I just have have have to share with you the pictures I took of it though! :) *luv*
p.s. This isn't in store yet cos I have to adjust the back a bit, though it's pretty much finished. But if you find yourself swooning over it as much as I am and wanna buy it, just email me - riz[at]rizsedek.com - and I'd be happy to put it under reservation for you when I put it in the shop. There's only one for now though, so first come first served, ok?

perfectness in perfect

I spent the afternoon yesterday wrapping these hair clips with satin ribbon, prepping them for the base for other hair couture designs. My fingers were all crampy by the end of it, but I think it does look pretty neat, and definitely more couture-ish than if they were simply left as metal. Saves the hair too, that's a bonus.
I went ahead and took photos of other craft-y things as well. Just because. :)
Then my boyfriend came home, and this is what he brought me (no, not the tiger).
It is perfect. It's about 1m long, just enough space to craft on, but the best thing is, it has a glass countertop. That is really just perfect for a moodboard/visionboard table-board! I had begun collecting imageries - of ideas, dreams, moods, inspirations, and such - and had converted an old cardboard box to use as my board. I had wanted the board to be organic, so that I can move things about or replace on a whim. Now, I got both, didn't I? An organic board, that I can move things around and I don't even have to be pasting on, which I can always be looking at, as I craft. Perfect. :)
p.s. The white tiger isn't mine; he was already there when I moved in. He's good company anyway. :)

Since I had first begun thinking of crafting again, my mind has been swarming with ideas on directions this new venture will take, shooting off in every direction. So, in an attempt at collecting them together and making it into something bit more cohesive...

I had been trying to come up with a name to call it. Sometimes though, what you wanted has always been right in front of you. And so, after going through words, in many forms and combination not one of them bringing that inspired "Aha!" moment, I decided to settle with what I already have. The name that I had first started out with, which is my own ~ Riz Sedek. After a very long hiatus, more than half a year, this will be a continuation of sorts. And it feels right. Feels good.
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet." - William Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet
Speaking of names, I had the idea of calling my creations by Old English female names. Ah my love for the historic times coming into play. This will be fun. :)

Beautiful castles. Mysterious ruins. Handsome chateaus. Enchanting cathedrals. Bewitching forests. This country is full of delightful wonders.
So why not have a photography session outside, with these magnificence in the background? It will be the perfect excuse for some nice excursions across the country. This will be fun, indeed. :)

Right now I am making preparations for the 'launch' (I'm not really sure how else to call it!). Sourcing and getting supplies, making a few prototype pieces and improving on my technique. I am also making room for a new craft table, so that I don't have to worry about the glue sticking to the mac! :)
I am targeting for this launch to be in early Fall. So that should give me enough time to make several designs to call it a collection. In the meantime, you will still be able to get your hands on some 'pre-launch' pieces that I will put up on the Etsy shop. Here's the first one:
I'm very very excited to get going. I'll write more in time to come how this is all turning out. :)

fascinators obsession
|
|

Some of you may know that I have been obsessing about fascinators for a while now.
I have been surfing the web and browsing Etsy shops for inspirations, studying tutorials on how to make one, watching videos on how to wear one, and pretty much dreaming up special occasions when I can adorn one!
And because of all this, I am suddenly having the urge to create some. I have been busy hunting down materials and musing about designs, ideas, and basically planning what I really wanted to do and where I want it to go, having somewhat settled in now in my new homeland, and having steadily acquired new tools and materials for crafting.
So, we'll see how this goes. :)

gearing up for YARt
|

The unofficial Etsy-wide YART sale (that's Yard + Art ;) ), sponsored by the Etsy Supply Street Team, is here for its second year! What a better way to celebrate the beginning of Summer than to take part in it.
Lots of shops will be holding sales or offering free shipping. Oh yeah, my crazy shopper radar mode is definitely perked up. Hur hur..
As for my own shop with vintage print art and maps, Antikvariat, all items are going for 15% off. And if you spend more than $30 after discounts, you'll also get free shipping. So be sure to stop by Antikvariat and get that vintage European print you've been eyeing for a while now. :)
p/s: To know how to get an additional 5% off, be sure to join my Facebook page!

Ok, I am a week late for this discovery, but it still felt good anyway! I occasionally check craftcult.com for shop and item hearts, and soooometimes over to the Featured page to see if I was featured anywhere. This time, it was a pleasant surprise!
Thank you for featuring Antikvariat, Christine! There are some cool picks there too, inspired by artist Dustin Yellin's space. Check out the Storque post here!

vintage music sheet rosette
|
|
Friday, 29 May 2009, 09:13 PM
|
I have been dying to try my hands on making rosettes using the vintage music sheets that I have, inspired by all the fabric rosettes I see everywhere now (ooh I love them so!). And so, lo and behold...
My first attempt!
Ok, the rosette part itself was actually a second attempt; the first one didn't turn out so well. :) I quite like how this one turned out. I have been wanting to make accessories and wedding favors out of the vintage sheets as a sister project of Antikvariat, so I'm happy that this initial attempt was a success.
So, what do you think of it? Let me know your comments, alright? Critiques are always welcome too!

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three R's:
- Respect for self, - Respect for others and - Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.
20. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
